THIRD
ANNUAL BLACK HERITAGE FESTIVAL BEGINS
AUGUST 23 IN LAGOS
The week-long
annual Lagos State Black Heritage Festival is to hold between August
23 and 30, 2003. The Festival serves as a rallying point to project
the diverse cultural heritage of Africans, during which people of
African decent from the Diaspora seize the opportunity to re-integrate
with their natural roots.
To this end,
the Black Heritage Festival will showcase the effects of the Trans-Atlantic
slave trade in Africa, which eventually resulted in ‘heterogenising
Africans and Europeans in the Western world.’
According to
the Lagos State Waterfront and Tourism Development Corporation,
organizers of the festival, the event is to feature display of photographs,
cultural dialogue, and presentation of writings and other materials
on the slave trade.
Other events
include guided tour of heritage sites, atonement and special prayers,
EBI Festival-Cultural Night; an economic forum and a Gala Night.
Venues of the
events are the Eko Hotel Le Meridien; Whispering Palms Beach resort,
Badagry; ASCON Guest House and the Eko Tourist Beach Resort.
